Asus launched its Flagship phone ZenFone 6 with a unique Flip Camera module. Asus went all out and went with the best processor Qualcomm has to offer which is the Snapdragon 855 chipset along with the 5000mAh battery, a near stock Android UI, Stereo Speakers among other things.
Every Major Company is trying their best to attract customers, OnePlus has already launched its flagship OnePlus 7 series phones globally and now Asus is planning to take Oneplus 7 head-on with the ZenFone 6.
Zenfone 6 (Display)
This year the focus is on bringing the screen to body ratio to the edges of the phone by different methods. Some smartphone vendors went with a waterdrop notch, Samsung Went with a punch-hole setup, Oneplus and other Chinese brands are betting on Pop-up camera setup While Asus has adopted a different implementation for the ZenFone 6. Asus went with a Flip Camera, the rear camera of the phone literally flips to the front when the user needs to take a video call, use face unlock to unlock the phone or take a selfie. The camera module of the Zenfone 6 relies on a motorised stepper motor that can change angles by a variation of 2 degrees that allows the device to offer more versatility for shutterbugs.
There is a singular camera setup for both the front and back of the device. The ZenFone 6 gets a dual camera, using a combination of a is using a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor as a primary unit and a secondary 13-megapixel wide-angle camera sensor. Sadly there’s no OIS and the phone is solely relying on EIS for stability. The unique camera setup helps users in providing unmatched sharp panorama images. Users can take vertical and horizontal panorama shots without having to do anything, the camera will rotate itself to provide an incredible panorama shot. Customers can also manually control the camera flip angle of the device which can help photography enthusiast to fully capture the essence of an image. This phone also has some gimmicky features in the camera department you can take super-resolution images up to 108 MP.
Zenfone 6 (Camera)
The unique implementation of the Flip Camera allowed Asus to push the screen to body ratio to more than 90% and this makes for a fullscreen display without any kind of notch on the top. The Zenfone 6 has a 6.4-inches Full HD+ LCD Display.
The ZenFone 6 has the best chipset Qualcomm can offer it has a Snapdragon 855 chipset along with the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem. Customers can buy the 6GB and 8GB Ram versions along with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB internal storage options. The phone also has a triple slot setup which allows the users to use dual sim capabilities and can expand their internal storage via a micro SD card at the same time.
On the software front, the device runs on Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box with the ZenUI skin on top. Asus has revamped the ZenUI with a stock Android-like interface and some extra features. Asus also went all out on battery, the ZenFone 6 is using a massive 5000mAh battery that can be refilled using 18W fast inbox charger. Even though the device is using a massive battery surprisingly they managed to fit all of this hardware in less than 200g. The medium heft of the device makes it more sturdy and premium but it still managed to beat the competitions by weighing only 190g, which is still less heavy than its competition.
Price and Availability
The Asus ZenFone 6 comes in three variants. The base version costs Euro 499 or Rs 39,171/$445 and comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The second variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, which is priced at Euro 559 or Rs 43,884/$623. The maxed out top-end variant gets 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, which can be purchased for Euro 599 or Rs 47,031/$668. At the time of writing this article, Asus hasn’t confirmed the launch date for global releases but India Launch is imminent and the phone will be available on Flipkart in the coming days.
