Smartphones are getting more and more powerful, combine this with their portability you have a powerful device in your pocket. The craze for PUBG Mobile and Fortnite continue to grow, Smartphone OEMs like Asus and Xiaomi have increased their focus on launching gaming-centric smartphones.
The Game Developers are also seeing the potential in this field and have started creating eSports competitions just for smartphone gamers. Last year Xiaomi introduced their Black Shark Gaming smartphone, which was a device running on the powerful Snapdragon 845 backed by a liquid cooling mechanism. The approach of Xiaomi was to offer high performance while still keeping it affordable, while ASUS’s gaming-centric brand ROG debuted the smartphone market by launching the ASUS ROG(Republic Of Gamers) Phone which was a power-packed smartphone with a hefty price tag.
There were also a bunch of accessories announced to enhance the gaming experience like- an extra Screen for a more enhanced gaming experience, an additional fan to trim down a few degrees at the time of intense gaming sessions, etc. Now, the company is reportedly working on the ROG Phone 2. The Exact launch date is still unknown but according to several sources, the ROG Phone 2 might be unveiled in between July and September(Q3), 2019. Other than that, there are strong indications that Asus will unveil their second general ROG smartphone at the upcoming Computex trade show 2019 which is scheduled to be held from May 28th to June 1st in Taipei, Taiwan.
A DigiTimes report further claims that Asus may team up with a Chinese internet company — Tencent. This partnership will allow Asus to promote its ROG Phone in China, which is currently the world’s largest smartphone market. This partnership is good news for PUBG players due to the fact that Tencent owns 5 percent stake in Bluehole, the South Korean developer behind PUBG Mobile.
The Partnership is vital for Asus because, in recent days, Razer has also teamed up with Tencent. The partnership of Razer and Tencent will cover everything from hardware to software to services. The deal was announced in March.
The first Republic of Gamers (ROG) smartphone was well praised for its unique design and premium hardware. The Asus ROG smartphone came with a 6-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution and for smooth gameplay, Asus ROG phone offered 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. The device was powered by 2018’s flagship 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Snapdragon X21 LTE modem.
It also supported vapor-chamber to keep the device at an optimal temperature. While the device was heavily focused in gaming, the camera wasn’t a complete disappointment — ASUS ROG hosted a 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the rear with a wide-angle 120-degree field of view and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. Asus knew that users will be annoyed to recharge their device often so, they backed their device with a 4,000mAh non-removable battery with a 20W ASUS HyperCharge technology. The Asus ROG Phone also came with ultrasonic AirTriggers on the side edges which can be customised as per the game.
For the first time in a smartphone, ASUS introduced Aura RGB lighting with Aura Sync support. According to some rumours, the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 2 will also come with the latest and greatest specifications. In the performance point of view, we might see the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
