Have you ever wonder why your Facebook News Feed is tuned this way, to answer this Facebook is introducing a new feature called, “Why am I seeing this post?”

For years Facebook only tells the consumers that their News feed is tuned based on the user’s preference. The Social Media Giant has now announced this new feature will let you know why you are seeing certain posts and give you better control of what you see from your friends, Pages and, even Groups.

Facebook is feeling the heat over extra data gathering and data selling accusations so, this may seem like a damage control move. The Social Network is going to help you understand how it ranks posts that show up on your News Feed.

In order to bring more transparency in their Advertisements, Facebook is also adding some improvements to its “Why am I seeing this ad?” feature, which was introduced way back in 2014.

In order to view your News Feed behaviour, a drop-down menu on the right-hand side of the post will give you the option to see why you are seeing that post. In order to see why certain post appears on your timeline all you will now need to do is tap on it to get the context behind the certain posts behaviour. It will hopefully give you more control over how you then want to personalise your News Feed.

These are the things You Can see about your News Feed behaviour on Facebook:

  • You can Check why some certain post appears on your newsfeed.
  • You can Check how often you interact with posts from people, Pages or Groups.
  • You Can now also check how often you interact with a specific type of post, for example, videos, photos or links.
  • You Can even see the post popularity which was shared by the Facebook users, Facebook Pages and Facebook Groups you followed.

Facebook is saying that giving more control to their users and giving the people the ability to take action over their usage.

When you browse on that portion of your timeline the same drop-down menu will also have links to user personalisation such as See First, Unfollow, News Feed Preferences, and Privacy Shortcuts.

Facebook is heavily criticised for its Ad-policy and collecting very personal user data for advertisements. In order to bring some transparency, they added some extra features on “Why am I seeing this ad?” Now Facebook will let you know if the ad appeared, for instance, because of a company uploading your contact list (due to personal user data collection )or if a marketing partner was involved to place the ad.

This updated “Why am I seeing this ad?” portion will now provide details such as when the advertiser uploaded the information for the customers or if the advertiser worked with another marketing partner to run the ad. Facebook also claimed that the new policy on privacy will only prefer advertisements to be matched with the relevant audience, without revealing any identifiable personal information behind the users back with the businesses.
